It brings us immense pleasure to finally announce that we have successfully completed our 7Th-semester capstone project at Bennett University Computer Science Branch under the guidance of Dr. Anurag Goswami. Our capstone project is based on a startup idea to provide services such as furniture, plumbing, electrical installations or repair works, and. other home needs.

About Our Project

Blue-collar workers are considered as working-class and always been undermined by the efforts they take to earn a daily wage. Their pay scale is too low and not sufficient to run a family nowadays. Due to less exposure to work requirements, most of these workers spend time searching for work the whole day in the wrong places and lose the opportunity to work in areas where their requirement is at the highest and thus returning home empty-handed. Less exposure to work opportunities is the sole reason for the poverty of daily wagers in most cases. On the contrary, people who are in desperate need of daily works such as furniture and plumbing assembly or repair works, etc are unable to find a person who can provide a decent solution for them. They keep on searching for daily wage workers and finally settle with a price more than expected due to brokers’ mediation. Therefore, we found it necessary to bridge the gap between the working class and other classes by providing a platform to create a positive environment that is beneficial for both the customer and the worker.

Home page where the customer can enter the user portal and the worker can enter the service provider portal.

So, we have built a mobile responsive web application using HTML, CSS, PHP, and XAMPP for hosting our website in the localhost and MYSQL for the database for both the user and the service provider. By using our interface, a user can choose from a range of service providers according to their requirements such as price, etc, after posting their problem description in our portal. The posted issue is initially reflected on all the worker’s dashboard based on the problem domain, the service providers are also known as workers could then have a brief review of the problem mentioned and quote a price accordingly. Finally, the worker’s data such as name, contact number and the quoted price will be reflected in the user’s interface. Now, the user can choose one from a huge list of worker details and contact accordingly.

The user can edit their profile details through the My Profile option.

The User can mention his problems in the following segments:

Carpenter:

Furniture Repair

Furniture Assembly

Plumber:

Installation

Repair

Blockage

User portal containing segments such as carpenter, plumber, electrician, Maid/Cook

Electrician:

Repair

Installation

Maid/Cook:

Maid

Cook

Service Provider page as per their profile/domain.

The Service provider page differs from profile to profile where the worker can mention during their registration. A dashboard will be displayed covering all the works received for them. They can further quote their price as per their wish.

Our Experience

Over the course of this project, we have learned many things, ranging from technical to managerial skills. In the technical domain, we’ve learned:

In-Depth knowledge of Web development using HTML, CSS, PHP, and XAMPP for hosting our website in the localhost and MYSQL for the database

We have explored the basics of PHP sessions, Advanced CSS for developing a framework.

We have also explored the methods, workings, and uses of XAMPP and how to implement these plugins and use them to build apps.

How to troubleshoot build errors during deployment.

Whereas in managerial :

We were able to get the hang of to work and collaborate virtually online since it was the first time for both of us. During previous semester projects, we used to work together in the same location (either in the college library or in campus rooms).

Gained a perspective on how to work on our communication skills while using Ms teams and discord for meeting sessions and sharing our work progress.

Developed innovative tactics to bridge the gap of direct communication and work on improving any lagging coordination.

Acknowledgment

We would like to thank Bennett University Computer Science branch for providing us such a wonderful platform to showcase our innovative thoughts and ideas through applications and software as our capstone project during this pandemic situation. I would also like to thank Dr. Anurag Goswami Sir for always pushing and supporting us to express our thoughts through our application. Dr. Anurag Sir has always suggested and corrected us when we were stuck at any point during the project.
